Contrast paints and Tyranids are such a perfect match. Darcy: Termagant Experiments I have had a great deal of fun experimenting with using various real-world colour schemes that can be found in nature for my Tyranids. I've so far attempted schemes based on the following:

2. Wash all the skin areas with Seraphim Sepia . 3. Highlight the skin areas using Ushabti Bone. Make sure you leave the Seraphim Sepia showing through were the recesses are as shading. 4. Create a glaze mix of Ceramite White (50%) and Lahmian Medium (50%) and apply a thin layer on the upper most rounded areas.

It's no secret that Tyranids were inspired by a certain classic sci-fi franshise and we figured we'd have some fun painting one in the scheme of the Xenomorp.

The patchy color was also applied on the chest area, some pics from the Hormagaunt: Next step: tinting these parts with GW Flesh Tearers Red. The contrast paint will work only on the pale areas leaving almost untouched the black-blue, hence creating a nice transition. On the heads, i drew the same irregular red shapes visible in the 3rd edition.

My 7 tyranid colour schemes. Think I like #3 best for their simplicity & contrast. Though #2 is pretty slick also. Great work all round. All of them look great (nice detail work btw) but my favourite is the black ops one :)
